Our family of eight – soon to be nine – can dirty up some clothes, let me tell you. Plus we have twins in cloth diapers. Our laundry is no joke. To save money, my husband recently explored Pinterest to look for a good DIY homemade laundry soap recipe. I’m always fascinated when I catch a guy on Pinterest. It’s like seeing a wild animal wandering around in the city.

Crock Pot Spaghetti Sauce

Hi y’all! Long time, no hear – I know. We have had our hands full with the twins learning to walk and our two year old learning to be a bossy little lady. Plus our three teens are doing well in school. And of course, baby number seven is growing and kicking up a storm. We’ll be having a gender sonogram soon! It’s an exciting time in our house. We’re using our slow cooker more than ever.

Spaghetti is a great weeknight meal for a large family like ours. It’s an inexpensive dish, and when prepared with love, it can be super tasty. I love making spaghetti sauce in our Crock Pot. Give hope to the hopeless

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11

Children are the very picture of Hope. They represent all the bright possibilities of a life unlived, and dreams not yet realized. Their potential can never be accurately measured. They are the hope of their parents, the hope of a generation, the hope of a better future.

Hope is by definition a wish with an expectation of fulfillment. As Christians we have the ultimate Hope. Because of our Lord, we can Hope for the fulfillment of His Glory and to one day stand before Him in worship. It is a beautiful Hope. As Americans, we have the luxury of hope for a better tomorrow. We have opportunities and the resources to work for a better future for ourselves and our families. We plan for retirement, save up for college funds, dream of a better life for our children and grandchildren.

But hope is not a feeling everyone can share. There are families today surrounded by the harshest realities of poverty who can not imagine a better tomorrow. For them, there is no dream of something more – there is only the crushing struggle to survive another day. Things we take for granted: education, comfort, happiness are beyond their reach.

Christ has given us the ultimate Hope. And as His servants, we can extend hope to others.

You can change the world

This week has been an eye opening week. We’ve talked in the past about sponsoring a child. After reading David Platt’s Radical we know in our hearts our going-through-the-motions life of “being good” Christianity is hollow. God calls us to have a heart for the poor and a desire to give sacrificially. But as it often happens, our daily lives pushed aside those feelings as we focused again on the mundane.

Training for a bigger event

Recently I had been training for my first 5K this upcoming September. But God has revealed his plan for a much grander event, coming this Winter.

I love squash. It’s delicious! I love the subtle nutty flavor, the yellow color, and I really appreciate all the wonderful health benefits. Yellow squash is a good source of vitamin C and vitamin A, magnesium, fiber, folate, copper, riboflavin and phosphorus.

My family, however, does not like squash. That’s okay. This Sneak Attack Mac and Cheese makes sure they get a dose of this very good-for-you vegetable.

Cherry Jello Poke Cake – and driving way too fast

 

I have officially lost my taste for driving in the city. I can’t handle it! This past weekend I drove over to the big city of Austin, Texas for a MommyCon Mini. It’s been years since I’ve driven in a city with more than 20,000 people in it. Anything bigger than a two-lane road makes my palms sweat. I was a little freaked out when I merged into the flow of traffic as I entered Austin.
